Birmingham City Schools:
Closing Effective Immediately

Out of an abundance of caution relative to the coronavirus (COVID-19), Birmingham City Schools (BCS) will close effective immediately. BCS remains proactive in promoting the safety of students, families, employees and stakeholders. The only BCS facilities open during the extended closure will be school campuses serving as meal service locations.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has ordered schools to be CLOSED for the remainder of the school year.

In a press conference on Thursday, March 26, Ivey announced at-home schooling to begin on April 6.

The state will implement online distance learning. Ivey said help will be forthcoming for those who do not have Internet access. Correspondence packages will be sent out.

The end of the school year is now June 5.
